1984 Redux

They're at it again. The Bush Mob are in their best Orwellian mode as they attempt to pull the wool over the American people's eyes. Dubya's legal lap-dog (sorry to insult canines with that asperation on their character), Alberto Gonzalez is doing his best to justify the warrentless wire-tapping they've been up to. Their perversion/undermining of the US Constitution is the latest outrage to eminate from the same creepy crew that also gave us Iran-Contra (one of who's plan details envisioned giving white supremecists police powers & having them run "detention camps" for political dissidents) & Watergate. Considering who these folks are: unapologetic corporate fascists who desire to pull the USA back to the late, unlamented Robber Baron era before the passage of the Sherman Anti-Trust Acts, it is not surprising. The only surprise must be theirs...as they are being forced to publically justify this. I imagine that in their hubris, they thought they could get away with this until the Constitutionally sanctioned end of King George II's reign (though it would not surprise me if they try to get around that one too...Karl Rove is enough of an evil genius to try to pull that trick).
Before the ascension of King George II, the USA had been the most fortunate nation in the Western Hemisphere. We were fortunate enough to have the right leadership in place when great crises' hit: Washington during the Revolution, Lincoln during the Civil War, FDR during WW2, Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Now comes a challenge equal to those great struggles...and the American public has been hoodwinked into having Dubya occupying the Oval Office. Now I guess I know how the citizens of the other nations in this hemisphere feel regarding having the wrong men in power at the wrong time...they are the unfortunate citizens of banana republics.
